Dear Tarzan Families,
Thank you for being in our audience last night for our final dress rehearsal of Tarzan. Tonight we END our rehearsal process and BEGIN our performances. Before we do that, I want to stop and thank you for all the support you’ve provided that helped us get to today. It is a cliche but it is also the absolute truth that this show took a family – and the theatre families generously provided this year.
Beginnings and endings are hard but important. It is hard to give up the day-to-day rehearsals, because they are uniquely beautiful. Watching kids find their voices, own their groove, and support their cast is the best part of the process; and seeing technicians take ownership of sound cues, glow as they see their creation transformed by lights, and bask in the beauty of the costumes they sewed made last night special. I will miss my daily rehearsal time with your young people.
“In learning you will teach and in teaching you will learn.” – I thank you for teaching your kids how to create art fearlessly and to lead with their hearts. I have learned SO much from them.
Thank you for allowing me to “explore”, “ape around”, and “fauna” over your young person. Now. . . on with the show!
